A 28mm game of AWI using the Black Powder rules and a scenario from the "Rebellion" supplement.
As usual I am about 5 years behind the times and this was my first game of Black Powder.
This scenario is actually Chatterton's Hill, Washington's right flank at the battle. The formidable Bronx River stands between the rebel scum and the King's justice.
The Royal left flank. The Hessian brigade begins the approach to the ford.
British guns in the center.
The British right is Jagers, cavalry and elite infantry (being portrayed by Queens Rangers in tonight's performance due to a painting scheduling conflict).
The US right flank is heavy with wavering militia, levy and a continental unit.
The British push across in the center.
Then the "unreliable" militia begins the beat down. First one British unit flees from the intense shooting, quickly followed by a Hessian unit.
A British unit crosses the ford and enters melee with some levy which handles them roughly and sees them retire back across the river.
Finnaly the Hessians emerge from the woods and the rebel right flank begins to withdraw.
On the other flank the British cavalry threaten to flank the Yankee line.
A prompt American counter attack checks the cavalry and sends the British back across the river.
(I couldn't find my bridge and this sad piece of balsa wood had to suffice. :/ )
The cavalry redirects and sets up to charge across the bridge.
They manage a good command roll and charge the Yankee gun crew.
The grape shot tears at them but they remain steady and close with the enemy.
The cavalry is victorious in the melee. The fleeing US crew is the last straw and the general retreat begins.
White Plains belongs to the King again!
A close game going down to turn 11 of 12. The US almost held out.
Wargames of interest: Imperial Rome, Dark Ages, Middle Ages, FIW, AWI, Colonial, WW2, Vietnam, Modern, Fantasy. Mostly 28mm with a little 15mm here and there.

More AWI
These are 28mm 2nd Generation Old Glory figs. I had never considered them before but these are very nice, painted easily and similar in size and style to Perry, which are what all my other forces are.
Here is a side by side with a Foundry (right) figure. These are a little slighter than the newer Perry AWI, but a thicker base makes them stand about the same.

New Painting
Some 28mm Perry Samurai I have been working on a while. Actually these are monks and peasants, but I do have painted Samurai, I swear!
And some WIP shots of critters for the never ending Fall Out project...a Centaur from Armorcast. These things never struck me as very powerful in the video game, but it sure looks nasty.
And the ubiquitous Two Headed Bramin carrying stuff (also from Armorcast).

Some new flags for AWI
Found these on ebay from a pleasant seller called "the gaming room". Reasonably priced and good quality.
The first ones I have put to use are the Queens Rangers. Did the QR have flags or use them in battle? I don't really know or care- I have the figures so they needed flags!

Playcation 2013: AWI big game
The results are in for Playcation 2013. There was a massive AWI game, featuring 5 players and just about every 28mm figure we own.
It was a fictitous contest featuring French, Germans, British and Americans slogging it out over a village and surrounding woodland. The British side managed to take most of the town but put too little on the woodland side of the table, losing those objectives to the Americans.
Miniatures are mostly Perry/Foundry 28mm. Rules are (heavily) modified This Very Ground.

The battlefield. Americans to left, French to back left. British to right.
The intrepid American general.
The American militia deploy on the road coming out of the woods. Some head up the mountain to secure one objective.
American guns atop the mountain.
British cavalry showing off. Actually deployed elsewhere.
American regulars and French cavalry.
Deployment on the village side. French infantry and guns near 1 objective marker.
The British right flank. Cavalry, Light infantry and Hessians.
French left flank.
AMericans start to advance but create a traffic jam for several turns as they are plagued with failing morale from Hessian Jaeger sniper fire and unlucky activation cards.
The Hessians start to push up the right flank.
The center remains clear. A 2 point objective marker in the middle of the road. A 1 point marker in the foreground is covered by Hessian ammussette teams that are out of sight behind the tree.
Fighting on the right flank heats up between Hessians and French.
French regulars and grenadiers trade volleys with the Germans.
British forces in their deployment zone slow to get into action.
French guns take aim at a British unit.
British unit comes within range of the guns but veers off at last minute to avoid the grapeshot.
Light infantry snipes at the French gun crews from the houses.
British cavalry makes a charge at the French guns. A bloody but unsuccessful gamble.
The French guns remain in control of the objective point, backed up by American infantry,
On the woodland side of the fight the Americans are having a hard time advancing against the Hessians Jaegers.
Maybe the Patriot and his boys can turn the tide!?
The Hessian Jaegers are few in number but their fire is accurate and demoralizing.
Finally American riflemen are in position to return fire and the Jeagers numbers dwindle.
Americans are finally able to charge against the pinned down Jaegers and flush them out of the woods.
French cavalry run down the fleeing amusette crews.
Mel and company grab the last woodland objective. Victory to the US/French 7-3
